American Magic has updated and relaunched their AC75 Patriot in Florida

The 2021 America’s Cup marked the return of the New York Yacht Club to the Cup racing with their American Magic team. The NYYC held the America’s Cup from its inception in 1851 right the way through to 1983, when they were defeated by the Royal Perth Yacht Club’s Australia II.

Team Name: American Magic
Yacht club: New York Yacht Club
Skippers: Paul Goodison (GBR), Tom Slingsby (USA)

Their winning run remains the longest winning streak in sporting history. After the loss in 1983 the yacht club stopped competing in America’s Cup racing, with American teams representing the San Diego Yacht Club and Golden Gate Yacht Club on several occasions (with several wins) in the intervening years.

Thus it was with great fanfare that the NYYC returned to Cup racing in 2021. However, despite a promising lead up to the event, American Magic ultimately had their regatta ruined by a capsize in the early part of the Challenger Selection Series.

The team worked hard to rebuild their boat and did even manage to get it back onto the water, despite significant damage during the high-speed capsize of their AC75 foiling monohull. But it never got back up to speed and they made an early exit at the hands of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli.

American Magic have confirmed their entry into the 37th America’s Cup and will, once again, be representing the New York Yacht Club. They will hope Cup racing in 2024 goes much better.

We admit it, we’re excited. The 37th America’s Cup has all the signs of being a good one. At six teams in total, it may not match the entry numbers…
