With an average wind strength of 1kt this morning the race officers at Skandia Cowes Week have, not surprisingly, just fired a indefinite postponement.

The chances of the 1,000-strong fleet actually sailing today are looking fairly slim.
According to Chris Tibbs (Skandia Cowes Week weather forecaster) the situation is not looking good with the forecast of light winds throughout the day, currently running true to form. “Yes, it’s looking a bit iffy but there could be a chance late this morning or early this afternoon. There’s more shower activity than I predicted with big shifts under the clouds. To be honest I’d say there’s a 60 per cent chance of getting some racing in today but it’s a long way from definite.”
The current situation shows a northerly breeze of between 0-3 kts through the Solent.
