Steve Fossett's challenge to break the cross Channel sailing record has been aborted due to strong winds
Fossett who recently broke the Transatlantic sailing record aboard PlayStation set sail at 8h 26m 26s UTC/GMT this morning in an attempt to break Tracy Edward’s cross Channel record of 6h 49m 19s from Cowes to St Malo. However, just one hour after the start, the wind increased to 50 knot gusts and, combined with the rough seas, Fossett decided to abort the attempt.
The boat is currently on her way back to Cowes and, depending on conditions, they may restart this afternoon.
