Just imagine receiving a personalised weather forecast when sailing offshore, a forecast for exactly where you are and where you are going, at a cost of just a few pence per day. Science fiction? No, fact. Weather services for yachtsmen are burgeoning and while some require hugely expensive satellite communication systems and powerful PCs, there are some that offer a personal e-mail service via Iridium or Mini M systems at low cost.
