Thousands expected for first Fat Face Night Windsurfing event at Hayling 31/8/06

Fat Face, the Active Lifestyle brand, is staging one of the UK’s largest windsurfing events this weekend (2-3 September) at Hayling Island, Hampshire with up to 300 riders expected to compete.

The added twist is that much of the racing will be at night, a first for the sport in the UK, if not the world!

The Fat Face Night Windsurf will be the final stop on the Fat Face Night Tour 2006. Fat Face has already organised night events in mountain biking, mountain boarding, snow skiing, water skiing and surfing, which was such a success that Lusty Glaze Beach in Newquay had a one in, one out system operating!

In the light of the day, windsurfers of all abilities will be encouraged to grab their boards and compete in a series of Master Blasters. Although mainly for fun, there are masses of prizes up for grabs and the opportunity to join the elite circuit and compete in the Night Windsurf, which kicks off at 1800.

This is the first time Fat Face has run an event in windsurfing and thousands are expected to converge on Hayling Island to catch the pro and amateur riders performing just off Hayling Seafront.

The Fat Face Night Windsurf competitors will race close in-shore with a supercross-style format, on the floodlit competition area, ensuring the action will be up close and personal for spectators. Strong south-westerly winds are forecast, which will make for some full-on, extreme racing with the potential for records to be broken by the top names in the sport.

Alongside the action on the water, a series of ‘clinics’ will be featured at the event, offering advice to newcomers and experienced riders alike from ‘freestyle intro’ to ‘faster windsurfing. And to liven up the party atmosphere, live music and DJs will blast out tunes whilst food and beer tents will be on site. All of this will culminate in a fireworks display, celebrating what is envisaged to be another hugely successful Fat Face Night Event and conclusion to the series for this year.

Registration for the day’s event on Saturday starts at 0800 and racing gets underway at midday, although boarders can sign up throughout the day. The Fat Face Night Windsurf will kick off at 1800 with a number of rounds leading to the Grand Final at 2200.

The event is totally free for spectators and parking is available on site.
