The all-girl crew aboard Amer Sports Too crossed the finish line in Cape Town at 01:20:12 GMT this morning, six hours and 20 minutes after Djuice Dragons.

On the final approaches to finish of the first leg, the breeze built which produced an exciting finale for the media and spectators who’d gathered to give the girls a heros’ welcome.

Under floodlights, the boat was escorted to the Victoria and Alfred waterfront where more crowds of journalists surrounded the team. Lisa McDonald, the skipper said, “even though we came last, I am very pleased with the performance of the yacht and the crew. Over thousands of miles we were able stay with the guys that have sailed together for more than two years.”

With just 11 days before the start of the next leg, the girls have little time to prepare the boat for what will be the toughest leg of the race – the Southern Ocean.

After three days off to recover, work will start on Sunday to “star” in a TV commercial being shot for sponsor UBS and to start work on the boat.
