Over the weekend of 23-24 June a very impressive turnout of 45 Fireballs arrived at Shoreham Sailing Club to take part in the third in the four-event Typhoon Super Series. The usual fleet was swelled by the arrival of some French and Irish boats all hoping to get some last minute practice before the worlds in Italy in July.

Saturday saw brilliant sunshine and the fleet sailed out in a lovely Force 3 with a small chop. The first race was led at the first mark by the Current world and national champions DJ Edwards and Vyv Townend and this pair were never seriously challenged. By the first leeward mark Vince Horey and Jonny Mildred were second with Stevie Morrison and Liam Murray third. The steady breeze gave little opportunity for place changes and the positions remained the same to the finish.

The second race of the day was sailed in very similar conditions and again the left-hand side paid on the first beat and this time it was Morrison/Murray who led at the first mark, with again Horey/Mildred second. The fleet behind were very tightly bunched with Jeremy Davy and Matt Flint leading the group. The first couple of reaches were broad and suited the light weight pair of Morrison/Murray who had an unassailable 100yd lead by the leeward mark. The race was again very one sided with only Chips Howarth and James Grant really making any progress in getting through to third by the finish.

The evenings events fuelled by Turbo Shandy were as always excellent with many questioning the end of night Curry the next day.

Sunday began with a very light sea breeze which suited Morrison/Murray who led at the first mark followed by Kevin Hope and Simon Hextall. On the second beat Edwards/Townend moved through to second in the increasing breeze and then set about Morrison/Murray. Over the next three laps this pair enjoyed a very close race with cover only broken for a very short space of time. By the last windward mark the pair were level and down the run Edwards/Townend almost took the lead. Morrison/Murray just held on to the finish but Edwards/Townend crossed the line to silence meaning they would now have to count there sixth from Saturday, giving the event to Morrison/Murray with one race left.

The final race was for second and Edwards/Townend and Howarth/Grant enjoyed a very close race. At the last leeward mark Morrison/Murray passed Howarth/Grant with Horey/Mildred close. In the dash to the line Edwards/Townend took the gun with Howarth/Grant second.

This was another very close event to add to the first place tie at the previous event in Exmouth. On the series Morrison has now won two of the three events although it has yet to be decided how the overall will be worked out. Thanks to Typhoon for their generous sponsorship and everyone at Shoreham for there hospitality.
