Karine Fauconnier and team aboard Sergio Tacchini are leading the 60ft multihull fleet

The 19-strong Transat Québec-Saint Malo fleet got off to a good start yesterday from the Quebec Yacht Club line in a light south-westerly breeze. Yves Parlier sailing Médiatis – Région Aquitaine took the best start in Multihull 60 fleet but after less than 24 hours into the race is now 95nm behind the current leader Sergio Tacchini skippered by Karine Fauconnier. Michel Desjoyeaux on Géant is less than a mile behind in second place.

Crêpes Whaou ! who took the best start in the Class 2 multihull fleet yesterday is maintaining his lead while Luc Coquelin (Marina Fort Louis Ile de St Martin) is gradually increasing his lead over Ciment St Laurent and Branec III in the Monohull 50s.

If the wind remains in the same direction, the first leg of the course downriver towards Newfoundland into the Atlantic will be predominantly downwind and likely to take the fleet one and half to two days. The fleet is currently heading towards the first course mark, the ‘bouee de Matane’ located in the St Laurent river.
