A race win for GBR sailors, Iain Percy and Steve Mitchell, at the Star Bacardi Cup puts them in fourth overall after four races

RYA team GBR sailor and Olympic Finn Gold Medallist, Iain Percy, sailing with Steve Mitchell, matched the 2000 Olympic Star Gold Medallists, Mark Reynolds and Magnus Liljedahl on points to push them up from 11th place overall to fourth. Percy/Mitchell won the first race on day four of the 75th Annual Barcadi Cup Star-Class Regatta in Miami, finishing just in front of Reynolds/Liljedahl and the Spanish paring of Jose Van Der Ploeg and Diego Fructuoso.

Two races were sailed, to make up for the one lost on day three due to bad weather. In the second race, Reynolds/Liljedahl showed why they were the current gold medallists in this class. The tables were turned, and this time it was Percy/Mitchell who were to finish just behind Reynolds/Liljedahl, in second place, with Diaz/Finnsgard of America in third.

By scoring only three points in two races on day four, Percy/Mitchell moved up in the overall positions from 11th overall to fourth. The lead also changed overnight, with MacCausland/Delaney dropping into third place overall and Van Der Ploeg/Fructuoso taking the lead.

After a good start to the regatta, RYA team GBR sailors Ian Barker/Ed Peel, could not match the form of their earlier results and posted a 16th in the first race, and then did not finish the second due to gear failure, to drop them back into 22nd position overall.

The Bacardi Cup concludes on Friday March 8.
