One of the most exciting boats for the racing dinghy/small keelboat sailor at this year’s Southampton Boat Show is the Judel/Vrolijk-designed Stream Line which looks, more than anything, like a giant-sized 505.

Built by Mader in Germany and imported by Harley Racing Yachts, this three-man trapeze one-design keelboat could be just the thing for those looking to make the step up from dinghies. She’s built of epoxy foam sandwich, has a 250kg retracting lead keel and double-bottom self-draining hull. And unlike many sports/keelboats that have appeared on the market recently, she features a conventional spinnaker. With an overall hull weight of 600kg including the lead keel, she is capable of being towed behind an average car.

While only a handful of boats have been sold to the UK market so far, there are already 64 boats on the race circuit in Germany. Whether, in this already diluted dinghy/small keelboat world, the Stream Line will take off in the UK has yet to be discovered. But it is certain that this boat, with its good pedigree, has a lot going for it. The bad news is a VAT inclusive price tag of £16,400, excludes sails and trailer.
