Top names expected at Soling world masters' championship in USA

Sheridan Shore Yacht Club in Wilmette, USA will be the host for the Soling world masters’ championship to be held from July 25-29. Competitors from around the world will converge on Wilmette Harbour for seven Olympic-type course races to be held in the open waters of Lake Michigan 1-2 miles directly east of the Bahai Temple.

Headlining the event will be the first American Gold Medalist in the Soling class and former America’s Cup Skipper, Buddy Melges, Jr from Zenda, WI. Also fighting for the trophy will be Bill Abbott, Jr. and his wife, Joanne, from Canada. Together, they finished 6th at the 1996 Olympic Games in Savannah. He is also a world Champion in the Soling as is Dave Curtis from Marblehead, MA. Class stalwarts such as Jim Medley from Seattle, Charlie Kamps from Milwaukee, and Stu Walker from Annapolis will also be looking to take the trophy home for themselves.
