Competitors hope to post their best results before the Skandia Cowes Week prize giving tonight

The sun is shining on the final day of Cowes Week, but forecasters are warning to make the most of it, as rain will fall later this afternoon. Just under 900 boats are due on the water today for a last bid to post their best results, before the overall prize giving held at the Cowes Yacht Haven tonight.

And the wind shouldn’t disappoint competitors. According to reports there is a warm front moving eastwards along the south coast expected at Cowes early afternoon. This will provide an increasing south-westerly wind through the morning.

After a brief clear spell cloud will quickly move in from the west with rain from about 1100. The rain will ease late afternoon before another band of rain arrives this evening.

Those who are still racing can expect a west-south-west backing south-south-west breeze increasing from 10-15kts this morning to 20kts by midday. This afternoon between 1200 and 1500 the wind will veer from south-south-west to south-west and remain between 15-20kts before it increases in strength later.
