Eastbourne Sovereign SC hosted the last RS700 Fat Face RS open event

Eastbourne Sovereign SC hosted the last RS700 Fat Face RS open event, enjoyed by a small but very competitive fleet last weekend took place in a light south easterly breeze.

In race one, and Leigh Albrecht served notice of what was going to happen for the whole event winning the first race in light marginal trapezing conditions followed by Jon Emmett and Andy Irons. Andy Irons did well to win the second race Emmett showing good consistency in second and Albrecht following. Race three started in much less wind, the fleet were quite tightly packed together; Irons was able to get in front and keep there.

On Sunday there ws slightly more wind and brilliant sunshine. The racing was very close with the whole fleet only seconds apart. Leigh showed good downwind speed and won with Tony Freer carving his way to second and Alex Koukourakis third. After a clean start in race five, the fleet split, the left-handers doing a little better. Albrecht notched up his third win with Irons second and Freer third.

The all important last race – the two local helmsmen, Koukourakis and Dave Geal made the most of the left-hand side, rounding first and second. On the downwind leg, Albrecht gained the lead and went onto win the last race and the meeting with Andy second putting him in second place overall.

The fleet will now move onto Rutland Water for the penultimate event of the calendar the Inland Championship.
