Eleven RS600 sailors travelled to Lake Como for the second round of the Eurocup series

Eleven RS600 sailors travelled to Lake Como for the second round of the Eurocup, they were greeted for the practice race by fabulous sunny weather and a very pleasant Force 3-4. Humphreys came out on top of the practice race after a close first lap battle with Jon Heissig which set the scene for the rest of the week.

There was no wind for the first day of the event proper so three races were squeezed into day two. Race 1 was sailed in shifty conditions, Humphreys tacked through the shifts to lead at the windward mark stretched away to win from Jon Heissig in second with Andy Heissig in third.

In Race 2 the race order at the windward mark of Humphreys, Pascoe, Cummins remained unchanged through to the finish.

Race 3 began with an entertaining start, despite a line fit for 100 boats the entire fleet started at the pin end, the only exception being Humphreys who assaulted the camera boat by capsizing on it. Cummins led the fleet to win from Humphreys who stormed back through the fleet to second with Andy Heissig third.

Race 4 began with Humphreys leading only to be taken out by the RS200 fleet, allowing Jon Heissig through. Humphreys regained the lead on the next mark rounding but was then distracted by a girly RS200 and fell in. He recovered to win from Jon Heissig in second with Cummins third.

In Race 5 Humphreys led only to be taken by Cummins while sleeping down the run. Humphreys regained the lead to win from Cummins with Ten-Burg third.

The last day of the event provided steadily improving conditions. In Race 5 Cummins and Ten Burg broke away from the fleet finding good breeze on the left to take a huge lead at the windward mark. Humphreys out paced the leaders to take the win and secure the regatta. Heissig caught Ten Burg on the final reach to the finish but could not pass and finished third with Ten Burg Second.

Race 7 began in a good fresh breeze, all went left up the beat except White who disappeared off right. However as the fleet reached the windward mark White came steaming in to round joint third with Cummins. Humphreys led and stretched away to win from Jon Heissig in second with Cummins third.

Overall, Matt Humphreys won with 6pts from Dave Cummins in second (16pts) and Jon Heissig third (19pts).
