Two new RORC lit racing marks have been laid in the Solent

Two new RORC lit racing marks have been laid in the Solent. The first, the RORC Ocean Safety Buoy to the south-west of the Owers in approximate position 50 27.00’N 00 47.00W,while the second RORC buoy is at 50 19.00’N 02 00.00’W.

The new RORC Ocean Safety buoy complements the inshore racing mark just off Gurnard, which has been rounded by numerous Cowes fleets for five years. The two buoys will act as regular reminders to both inshore and offshore fleets that safety at sea is of paramount importance.

Director of Ocean Safety, Richard Besse, commented: “We are delighted to support the Royal Ocean Racing Club with one of their new offshore racing marks. It provides a great link between inshore and offshore racing and cruising.” He added, “At this time of the year, it is important to remind boat owners that they should check that their safety gear is functional and in date. Especially important with lifejackets and flares and to make sure that liferafts have been serviced for the coming season.”
