Thirty-seven boats turn out for National 12 event at Ripon SC last weekend 10/7/07

The Gill National 12 Summer event, held at Ripon SC on 7-8 July attracted a total of 37 boats.

Two races were held on the Saturday. Graham Camm and Zoe Ballantyne took line honours in both races, demonstrating impressive heavy weather sailing skills.

After sailing, N12 Vice Chairman, John Meadowcroft, made a presentation to the retiring Vintage Wing Representative, Ken Goddard, who has encouraged the restoration and sailing of vintage Twelves.

Sunday began with a pursuit race, based on a boat age handicap. The Vintage boats enjoyed some of the best wind before a calm patch hit, hindering the later starters. Vince and Alexander Phillips won, with Brian Herring and Ros Stephenson second.

Two further races were held on Sunday. The Meadowcrofts took an early lead in the first race, only to sail the wrong course. Local helmsman Howard Chadwick sailed the correct course and with the leaders having to retrace their steps the Camms were soon at the front of the fleet, a position they held to the end.

The final race was sailed with blue skies and a steadier breeze. The Camms took line honours again.
