The Gill National 12 Series kicked off last weekend at Bristol Corinthian YC 4/4/07

Nineteen boats took part in the first event of the National 12 2007 Gill Series which was held in big winds at Bristol Corinthian YC.

Fran Gifford and Sophie Mackley were first to cross the line and led for the first lap. Richard Williams and Lindsey Iles took advantage of a large right shift to overtake Gifford and Mackley on the second beat and win race one.

Tom Stewart and Liz Ross started well in race 2 but Williams and Iles recovered from a spectacular pitch-pole right in front of the clubhouse and took the lead when Stewart and Ross went for a dip.

Before the start of the third race, the wind shifted left leaving the fleet unable to cross the line on starboard. Williams and Iles were first to the windward mark but Stewart and Ross overtook on the second reach. Graham Camm and Zoë Ballantyne overtook Williams and Iles on the penultimate lap to finish second.

On the Sunday gusts in excess of 30 knots forced the cancellation of the remainder of the racing. This left Williams and Iles in first place by one point from Stewart and Ross.
