It's going to be another big day for the sailmakers here in Cowes as forecasts predict Force 5-6 southwesterlies, calming slightly during the day

Today’s meteorological picture is dominated by the low pressure system that inspired much of yesterday’s weather. At 0530 this morning it was off the coast of Yorkshire and moving northeast towards Scandinavia and deepening on the way.

This brought Force 7 west-southwesterlies earlier this morning but these have now decreased to a gusty Force 5-6 and look set to drop as the day progresses.

High tide Portsmouth today is 1352 (4.4m) and this will make for an uncomfortable first beat west up the Solent this morning and some dicey runs back east after high water as wind over tide boosts the chop.
