The Hunter 707 team sailing Charlie Fish have won their class at the Tyco Healthcare Hamble Winter Series

Going into the last weekend of the Tyco Healthcare Hamble Winter Series yesterday Charlie Fish led Pocket Battleship with Doh! and Royal Thames battling it out for third.

In a light south-westerly the fleet got away first time and Chilli Chaser led from the outset. Behind them there was the opportunity for plenty of place changing and those in the fray included, Starborn 3, The Sweeney, 3 Little Pigs, Charlie Fish and Censored.

The wind dropped for the last beat, and a large number of the top ten who went left for slightly more breeze, watched helplessly as those on the right benefited from a 70 degree wind shift. At a shortened finish Chilli Chaser won by a significant margin from Starborn 3, Miss Moneypenny, 3 Little pigs and Censored.

In the overall standings, other than Miss Moneypenny, the others were looking at discards, with Charlie Fish sixth, Pocket Battleship eighth and Doh! 13th, comfortably ahead of Royal Thames who trailed in 19th.

After a significant wait for the second race the wind filled in from the north-west and a slightly depleted fleet again got away cleanly. With a strong tide, the majority went right into the shore and having had the best start Royal Thames led round the windward mark, closely pursued by Pocket Battleship.

On the second beat, Doh! went closest inshore to take advantage of bend in the wind and subsequently led round the windward mark, a position which they retained to the finish. Royal Thames were second from Pocket battleship, then Charlie Fish and Impulse in fifth, their best result of the series.

Overall positions in the series remained unchanged with Charlie Fish maintaining their six point lead over Pocket Battleship in second, Doh! third, Royal Thames fourth and Miss Moneypenny fifth.
