Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield crowned the new champions

Athens bound sailors Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield were today crowned the new 470 class European Champions. The pairing, who finished fourth at the 2000 Olympic Games, have had a great season so far, medalling at every major championship in which they have competed.

The European Championship took place in Warnemunde, Germany and attracted 103 boats representing 30 nations. The British pairing sailed a fantastic week in light conditions and a ninth place in the final race of the championship secured them the title.

A delighted Rogers commented, “It has been a hard week and it has felt like a really long regatta so we are pleased that we managed to grind it out. We had one bad day in the really light conditions when we scored two results in the 30’s, but we managed to bounce back from this. All the top boats were competing at the event, and despite it being a European championship, it was certainly world class standard.”
