A healthy turnout of 29ers made it to the start line for last weekend's open meeting at Lee-on-Solent SC

Even though exams are looming for many of the 29er teams, a healthy turnout including the two teams selected for the ISAF Youth Worlds came to Lee-on-Solent SC on 11-12 May for some very tight racing.

The Saturday proved testing with a lot of place changing in the fickle breeze. The tide also played a large part and caught many of the teams out as the found themselves swept past the leeward mark.

Pippa Wilson and Jenny Marks stamped there authority once again by proving in the light conditions on Saturday that consistency counts – two seconds was very impressive when the rest of the fleet were getting both single and double figures in one day.

Matt and Jo Dillon showed their light wind tidal expertise with a first and a fifth as did the Welsh team of Dave Freemantle and Ben Redwood with a first and a seventh. Jonny Marshall and Tom Smedley had an unspectacular first day but were able to bring themselves back once the wind kicked in on Sunday.

It was still not enough to win because it was Pippa and Jenny who had no result worse than second all weekend.

Sunday’s breeze brought some of the more familiar faces to the front with brothers Edward and Antony Chapman notching up a consistent scoreline along with the steady team of Jonathan Frazer and Jonathan Clegg. The new paring of Rick Peacock and Adam Clarke showed potential and improved steadily through the weekend.
