The first leg of the Global Challenge finished yesterday with the arrival into Buenos Aires of Team Save the Children

The first leg of the Global Challenge is now officially finished with the arrival into Buenos Aires of Team Save the Children in 37d:0h:46m:18s, yesterday.

After a multitude of problems onboard, not least being struck by lightening yesterday morning, the crew arrived jubilant into port.

Despite their competitiveness the 12-race sipper are exceptionally supportive of one another and in a true sportsmanlike gesture, the other race skippers, sailed out on Pindar this afternoon to greet and congratulate skipper, Paul Kelly and Team Save the Children who fought a valiant but frustrating first leg.

Upon reaching the port skipper, Paul Kelly commented: “We knew where and why we went wrong – a lot was bad luck and some human error. We knew we’d reached the door which was closed and we were going to come in behind everyone but we dealt with it as a crew.”

The official race protests will take place this morning.
