Me to You heads Leg 4 of the Global Challenge

Leg 4 of the Global Challenge to Cape Town started yesterday from Sydney with Team Stelmar once again leading the fleet across the line in 14kts of breeze downwind. But overnight Me to You has taken control.

Neville Wittey, Australian Olympic Gold Medallist who was at the start commented that the coastal route keeping out of the tide would be his choice. And at the time the information showed that the coastal yachts had approximately doubled the average speed over much of the fleet. Wittey said: “Normally in a southerly air stream with south-southeast, for some reason it pays to go to the right [West]. Provided they don’t get too silly, and they stick on the right hand side of the fleet, they [SAIC La Jolla and Me to You] could end up with a nice little lead!

As predicted by Wittey, Me to You has taken the overnight lead and currently heads the fleet by two miles. Imagine it. Done has slotted into second while current overall race leader BG Spirit is down in seventh.
