From Skandia Cowes Week to the Beijing Olympics, support from Volkswagen Touareg is helping take sailing to new levels
This is the third year that the Touareg is supporting the Laser SB3 fleet and the partnership is a winning one. The rise of the SB3 class has been meteoric and the fleet of these exciting keelboats is expected to outnumber any other at Skandia Cowes Week this year. The SB3 has broad appeal, attracting both yachtsmen and dinghy sailors. The tall rig provides plenty of power and intelligent design puts the skipper in control.
When the racing’s over the Touareg comes into its own. This a 4×4 that will take whatever you can throw at it, happily wading into water half a metre deep to make launch and recovery both simple and safe.
The Touareg is also the official vehicle partner to Skandia Cowes Week 2006.
The country’s premiere sailing event combines hard racing with serious socialising and whether getting your boat in the water or your belle to the ball, the Touareg does it in style.
The Tornado Boys
Sailing the SB3 may be the most fun you can have in one hull but nothing comes close to the Tornado for twin-hulled thrills and spills. Reaching speeds of 30 knots, the Tornados leave everything else in their wake – no wonder they continue to be the Olympic catamaran class.
If you’re down at Skandia Cowes Week this year then keep an eye out for the flying hulls of Leigh McMillan and Will Howden, aka the Tornado Boys. Touareg is supporting Team McMillan-Howden as this pair of multihull magicians work towards winning gold at the Beijing Olympics 2008.
Volkswagen recognises a winning formula and has provided early help for this promising pair, just as they did in their support of the now super-successful SB3 class.
The Touareg is the perfect vehicle for the Tornado Boys. Capable of pulling loads of up to 3,500kg it ensures that Leigh and Will can travel in comfort to events all over Europe, pulling their boat and carrying the mountains of gear they need. Traction control and electronic brake pressure distribution ensure the crew’s safety while the luxurious ride means that they’ll be ready to get wet and wild when they hit the water.
The Touareg is a 4×4 for those who understand performance and demand the best, on the water and on the road.
