Steve Irish and Martin Gotrel won last weekend's RS800 open meeting at Weymouth

Competitors at the RS800 Fat Face Racing Circuit event at Weymouth on 10-11 July enjoyed a mixture of conditions with the wind up to 20 knots on Saturday and dropping to 10 knots by late Sunday.

The score line on Saturday misrepresented the closeness of the racing, with Steve Irish and Martin Gotrel capitalising on mistakes by James Date and Mark Hogan, and Chris Haworth and Stuart Aston. Both these boats led races on Saturday but handed them to Steve and Martin with a variety of boat-handling errors. Steve and Martin sailed flawlessly taking a deserved three bullets.

On Sunday, with slightly less breeze, Irish and Gotrel started with a victory, followed home by Ronnie Miller and Peter Marshall.

Race two and as the breeze increased slightly the three leaders were separated by no more than five boat lengths most of the way round, with Date and Hogan coming out on top.

The final race saw Haworth and Aston beat Date and Hogan. Dave and Fiona Sayce joined the battle for the first lap. Sam Neal and Mandy Bretherton put in their best result with a fourth.
