Galway Bay's Patches wins the IRC nationals in Kinsale

The IRC National Championship in Kinsale came to a close on Saturday, with Galway Bay’s Patches winning the seventh and final race of the event and winning outright in Class Zero.

The British IRC Champions Flying Glove owned by Colm Barrington is in second place after a tight battle with Cork’s Coveney and Hyde’s Dark Angel who won third.

Oysterhomes sponsored Patches was first across the line in both races on the last day and got a second and first on handicap. Due to poor wind conditions on Friday, there was only one race and organisers had hoped to run three races on Saturday, however there was a late start due to the Lions match which meant that they could only fit two races.

Patches will be travelling to the UK next month in preparation for Skandia Cowes week and the Rolex Fastnet race before embarking on her campaign in the Mediterranean and the US.
