Some 1,000 crews are out to put in their best results as the pace of Skandia Cowes Week heats up
Nearly 1,000 boats will take to the water on the penultimate day of racing at Skandia Cowes Week today as crews make a fresh effort to influence overall placings ahead of the gales and rain forecast on Saturday.
Racing could be trickier tomorrow but today the conditions are made to order: sun and showers during the morning, but the clouds will clear to leave some longer sunny intervals and sea breezes in the afternoon.
There is double the excitement today as the festivities of Skandia Cowes Week reach a peak. The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team – the Red Arrows – will be providing a sensational prelude to the traditional Skandia Cowes Week fireworks display. Since Forming in 1965, the team have completed over 4,000 displays in 53 countries. Their display above Cowes today starts at 1930.
Following this will be the Skandia Cowes Week fireworks display at 2130. Best viewing is from the water, or ashore from Cowes Parade, Castle Hill, Princes’ Green as far as Egypt Point, or East Cowes promenade.
