The upturned hull of the IRC 55 Bounder has been towed into shallow water awaiting salvage 3/7/07

The upturned hull of the brand-new Juan Kouyoumdjian-designed IRC 55 Bounder which lost her keel and capsized on Saturday while sea-trialing off St Catherine’s Point in 18-20kts of breeze see previous news story here , is still afloat and awaiting salvage.

According to Geoff Matthews – watch officer at the Solent Coastguard office – the yacht was towed in to shallow water off the Bembridge Lightslip on the Isle of Wight yesterday afternoon and secured to a mooring just off the slip. “As far as we know she is still there and salvage arrangements are being made. We’ve currently got a west-south-westerly gusting up to 35kts and visibility is down to about five miles. However, she’s now in the lee of the island so it’s down to the salvage company now.”
