ACCBank today announced its sponsorship of Cork Week. Hosted by the Royal Cork Yacht Club, the event runs every two years and the 2008 ACCBank Cork Week will take place from 12-18 July.

The new agreement was announced earlier yesterday (Tuesday 15 January) at the London Boat Show. Familiar faces from Cork’s sailing community were present at the announcement, including Admiral of the Royal Cork Yacht Club, Hugh Mockler, and Mike McCarthy, Vice Admiral. BBC2 TV presenter – and Sailor – Ben Fogle, was also present at the sponsorship announcement.

Commenting on the new sponsorship, ACCBank General Manager for Strategy, Eddie Kingston, said ACCBank was very pleased to be supporting Cork Week 2008: “We have identified sailing as an excellent fit with our brand and of keen interest to our customers. We are delighted to be linking ACCBank with Cork Week, as it is such a prestigious Irish event.”

Speaking on behalf of the Royal Cork Yacht Club, Admiral Hugh Mockler said: “We are delighted to welcome ACCBank on board as the title sponsor of Cork Week. Cork Week is Ireland’s biggest sailing event and since its inception in 1986 we have welcomed sailors and spectators from all over the world. The 2006 Cork Week event had competitors from 21 countries, and we expect over 500 boats and 5000 sailors to take part this year. We are confident that the 2008 ACCBank Cork Week will be the biggest event in the history of the regatta.”
