ICAP to sponsor Mike Slade's new 100ft superyacht, making its racing debut at Round the Island Race 15/6/07

Ocean Marine, the British sailing team owned by Mike Slade, today announced that ICAP – electronic interdealer broker – will sponsor the new 100ft superyacht Leopard for the forthcoming summer season.

Set to be one of the fastest and most exciting new charter yachts on the circuit, ICAP Leopard will compete in the JP Morgan Round the Island Race, Skandia Cowes Week and the Rolex Fastnet Race.

ICAP Leopard arrived in Southampton from Sydney, Australia, at the beginning of June and will shortly begin sea trials in preparation for the JP Morgan Round the Island Race. ICAP’s sponsorship of the superyacht follows on from its previous sponsorship of Charles St Clare-Brown’s Maximus last year.

Mark Yallop, Chief Operating Officer of ICAP said: “ICAP is delighted to sponsor the brand-new maxi yacht ICAP Leopard. Leopard is good fit for ICAP – ocean racing reflects the drive, tenacity and teamwork needed to be successful in ICAP’s business.”

At 100ft loa, ICAP Leopard has a number of unique features which make her one of the most impressive superyachts on the circuit. With a giant mast towering 154ft above the water and a total downwind sail area of 1,604 sq m – equivalent to six tennis courts in size – she is capable of speeds of over 35 knots. As well as being a racing boat capable of breaking records, with her luxurious removable interior she has also been built specifically for charter.

Owner Mike Slade commented: “We are delighted to have ICAP onboard with us this summer. We have an excellent programme ahead which I know that they will enjoy and look forward to getting out on the water soon aboard this fantastic boat.”

After spending the summer season in the UK, ICAP Leopard will take part in a number of other high-profile races and regattas all over the world, including the Rolex Middle Sea Race (Malta) and the Sydney Hobart Race (Australia).
