British match racing team finish London 2012 test event in disappointing seventh place

Poole sailor Lucy Macgregor has vowed to bounce back in style after a disappointing Weymouth and Portland International Regatta.

The 24-year-old had high hopes heading into last week’s London 2012 test event, having claimed gold on the Olympic waters just two months earlier at the Skandia Sail for Gold.

However the British match racing team of Macgregor, younger sister Kate and Annie Lush couldn’t repeat their Weymouth heroics, losing to France 3-0 in the quarter-finals before beating Sweden to finish seventh overall.

Macgregor has warned her rivals not to read too much into their latest run out on England’s south coast, adamant they will be back to show what they are really all about in 11 month’s time.

“At the end of the day it is all about next year and making sure we can do it when it really matters but we are disappointed in how we have done,” she said. “We have shown at Sail for Gold with wining silver that we can perform here at the Olympic venue so we aren’t going to panic just yet.”
