Sweden Yachts, known for its high-quality build, has come up trumps once again with the recently-launched Sweden Yachts 42. With classic lines from the design board of Peter Norlin, this top-class cruiser/racer has already made a big hit, with 11 boats sold so far and more in build.

According to Jan Nilsson at Sweden Yachts, this new design was the result of customer interest for those wanting a sized down version of the 45 but retaining all the classic Sweden Yachts qualities. “We think we have done precisely that.” commented Nilsson. “We’ve also made the boat fun to sail and easy to handle. In fact everyone who sails a 45 comes back with a smile on their face.”

The sweeping, teak decking is a real luxury and something that one now tends to expect from all the Sweden Yachts range. The massive stainless steel/elkhide-covered wheel is postioned well aft of the cockpit, giving plenty of space for lounging. Thanks to the simple rig system, self tacking jib and most of the control lines led aft to the cockpit, the rig is easy to handle particularly when shorthanded sailing.

Although she’s primarily a cruising boat, she has a definite high performance feel which will not make her look too out of place on the racecourse. In fact several of the new owners have already put in their orders for racing sails!

Down below, there’s plenty of headroom, and together with large hatch covers, gives an extremely light and spacious feel. Most of the woodwork is mahogony and the attention to detail of finish on all aspects of the boat is some of the highest quality we’ve seen. The 55hp Volvo Penta engine is positioned under the cockpit just aft of the cockpit steps and is easily accessible from the main saloon.

The master cabin is off the saloon, foward, and features an ensuite including a shower at the bow. Another hatch cover just above the shower, once again gives plenty of light and unsurprisingly, is totally uncramped. The other two double berths are situated aft with a seperate heads and shower and plenty of stowage space.

For a standard Sweden 42 the price tag starts at approximately £260,000. For more details, log on to www.swedenyachts.se.
