Ian Barker and Daniel Cripps are leading the 505 world championship in Australia after three races.

The predicted Fremantle Doctor failed to materialise leaving both of yesterday’s races sailed in a shifty, puffy easterly. However, Ian Barker and Dan Cripps mastered the conditions suitably finishing in first place with another British team, Simon Payne and Bill Masterman finishing second.

After one aborted gate start and a disqualification for one team who forced the pathfinder to take avoiding action on the second start, the second race of the day finally got underway. Once again it was a shifty, puffy race, with place changes all around the course. Ian Barker and Dan left the gate early, punched out on the boats near them and then tacked to cross. However, apparently they were forced to capsize the boat during the race to fix something dropping well down the fleet. But still managed to pull through to second just behind 1992 and 1993 505 World Champions Chris and Darren Nicholson. Andy Beeckman/Ben Benjamin were third.
