A summary of how the Brits got on today and how they lie overall

Shirley and her crew win Gold, Ben, Jo and Nick have Silver in the bag with a race to go.

Yngling – Gold medal

Shirley Robertson, Sarah Ayton & Sarah Webb have taken a Gold medal with a day to spare. Ironically they won their medal with their worst result of the regatta but their ability to succeed in a wide range of conditions shone through.

Finn – Currently Silver, Gold possible

Ben Ainslie – A 2nd in the first race and a convincing win in the second extends Ben’s lead but not enough to guarantee a Gold, for that he’ll have to wait until Saturday as there’s no racing for the Finns tomorrow.

470 Men – Currently Silver, Gold possible

Nick Rogers and Jo Glanfield – Drop from the lead to second overall. While today’s result guarantees them a Silver, this was a very difficult day on the water for the pair as they scored a 10th and a 19th. With one race to go they need to beat the American’s with two boats in between.

470 Women – Currently 7th overall

Christina Bassadone and Katherine Hopson – Bouncing back from their DSQ they scored a 2nd in the first race but a 17th in the second and moved up two places overall

49er – Currently 5th overall

Chris Draper and Simon Hiscocks – A 10th and 8th today dropped them in the overall rankings but things are very close with only 3 points between them and the leaders

Laser – Currently 5th overall

Paul Goodison – Moves up the fleet after a 1st and a 9th today

Europe – Currently 24th overall

Laura Baldwin – A 25th and 22nd

Men’s Windsurfer – 7th overall

Nick Dempsey – A 15th and a 10th completed before sundown!

Women’s Windsurfer – 9th overall

Natasha Sturges – A pair of 9th positions keeps her there
