The Oryx Quest 2005
The Oryx Quest 2005 - the first non-stop round the world race to start and finish in the Middle East - began on 5 February 2005. There were originally four maxi multihulls currently competing including: Daedalus - skippered by Tony Bullimore, Doha 2006 - skippered by Brian Thompson, Cheyenne - skippered by David Scully, and Geronimo - skippered by Olivier de Kersauson, but an irrepairable damaged beam on Geronimo has forced them to retire.
The route is taking the fleet down the Indian Ocean and into the Southern Ocean, round the Antarctic Continent before rounding the infamous Cape Horn eastwards. After rounding The Cape of Good Hope the fleet will turn north and race for the finish line in Doha.
