 The
route to the Louis Vuitton Cup Final is made up of six stages.
Beginning with the two Round Robins raced over a period of 18
days, one challenger is knocked out leaving eight of the nine
challengers to go through to the Quarter Finals.
At this stage, the teams are divided into one of two groups:
Double chance and single chance. The top four boats based on
points move into the double chance group with the advantage
that if they lose in either the Quarter Final or Semi Final
they get another chance to make it through to the next round
by sailing against a winning boat from the single chance group
in a Repechage.
The challenger to win the Louis Vuitton Cup also wins the right
to challenge the defender, Team New Zealand.
