One of today’s ‘running aground’ victims at Skandia Cowes Week has just been hauled out of the water in Cowes Yacht Haven.

Dean & Dyball Enigma, owned and helmed by Ian Braham is an MG 346 competing in Class 7. With Braham at the helm Enigma won her class last year and is currently leading the fleet this year, but today’s mishap could affect her overall standing.

Chatting as he stepped off the boat this afternoon Braham explained what happened: “We run aground soon after the start, about 10 minutes into the race. We were closing on the mainland shore, short-tacking, put a tack in, were in about 1.2m of water with a boat inside us when suddenly we stopped dead and they carried on.”

Having hauled the boat out and seen the keel, there is clearly some damage to the tip but Braham and team are hoping that after further close inspection there’s no serious damage. “Just off to look now, so keep your fingers crossed,” concluded Braham.
