Competitors aged 8-18 years enjoyed a fantastic day’s racing in Weymouth and Portland Harbour yesterday on the first day of the Volvo RYA Youth Windsurfing Championships, (15-16 September).

“It was really tough competition out there today” said Daniel Ince, who is currently leading the Olympic IMCO class fleet after gaining the first places out of five races today. “Everyone was up it in all the races, and I really enjoyed the day.”

The weather was kind to the competitors with a north-westerly blowing across Chesil Beach, Force 4-5 and occasionally 6, producing ideal conditions in the harbour.

“The competitors racing here today are the future stars of British Olympic windsurfing” said Jon White, Windsurfing Manager at the Royal Yachting Association. “The standard on the water has been excellent, and bodes well for the future.”

The 49 youth and junior windsurfers are competing alongside 39 adults in the RYA/UK Windsurfing Association Masters Championships held simultaneously.
