Just over three months after the Volvo 65 Team Vestas Wind struck the Carajos Shoals in the middle of the Indian Ocean during leg 3 from Cape Town to Abu Dhabi, the independent report into the incident has been published.

Commissioned by the race organisers the investigation was conducted by Rear Admiral (Rtd) Chris Oxenbould (chair), Stan Honey and Chuck Hawley.

The report sets out the background to the incident and provides a set of recommendations which we will be reporting on in more detail later on today.

The VO65 wreckage was shipped back to Italy where the hull and deck are currently being repaired in an attempt to return to the race by the start from Lison, Portgual in June.

The full report can be read here.
