Film crews will be in Sables d’Olonne, France for the start of the race shooting for a new movie

According to reports, the Vendée Globe – the infamous single-handed, round the world yacht race – is to appear in a new film. Apparently race organisers SAEM Vendée will be assisting in the production of French film En Solitaire, produced by Gaumont and Les Films du Cap.

En Solitaire will tell the story of a sailor, played by François Cluzet, whose life-long dream to race in the Vendée Globe is realised when he replaces another skipper at the last minute, leaving his wife and his daughter on the mainland.

Shooting is due to take place from October to December this year, and the production team will be filming in Sables d’Olonne around the start of the Vendée. If you are lucky enough to be there, look out for them!

The Vendée Globe starts Saturday 10 November.
