Tracy Edwards MBE will be presenting the overall prizes at the Skandia Life Cowes Week 2002 prize-giving on Saturday 10 August on Cowes Parade.

The world-renowned yachtswoman will be at Skandia Life Cowes Week, to showcase her new attempt at the Jules Verne record. Tracy’s crew will make their attempt at the world speed record for a circumnavigation of the globe early next year, and in the process they hope to make history by becoming the first all female crew ever to sail non-stop around the World. They will be making the attempt on board Maiden II, the giant 110ft catamaran that was formerly Grant Dalton’s Club Med.

Tracy commented: “Skandia Life Cowes Week is a unique event with the broadest cross section of competitors anywhere in the world. I am really looking forward to bringing Maiden II into the action and to presenting the overall prizes at the end of the Week.”

The prize-giving will be held at approximately 2030 on Saturday 10th August. Patsy Carter from Cowes Combined Clubs Ltd comments:

“CCC is staging the overall prize-giving on the Parade this year as we like the idea of the ceremony being open to everyone and it worked very well for the America’s Cup Jubilee last year. It means that the crews and their friends can come along and make it more of an event. Also, the spectating public can be involved and enjoy the atmosphere.”
