Unless adequate sponsorship and Government support is obtained, the running of this year’s Sydney Hobart might not go ahead. Over 80 entries have already been received but without resources to run a safe race the organisers are doubting whether the race should take place.

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia has approached the NSW Government for some underwriting support but is still awaiting confirmation before it can go ahead with the organisation. So far there confirmed support has been received from the Tasmanian Government but because the Sydney Hobart is an expensive race to run, particularly with increasing safety costs and turbulent insurance market, the CYCA is negotiating to see what more may be done to defray race costs.
