There have been several evacuations but no serious problems so far

While talk of broken masts, accidental gybes and blood in the cockpit keeps the beer tent buzzing with tales, there have been no serious, life-threatening injuries at Skandia Life Cowes Week 2001.

There was a nasty incident off North Gurnard today when Barry Gore’s Sigma 38 Sigmadrigal accidentally gybed. A crew member was caught by the boom on its way across and suffered cuts to the head. He was airlifted by the Bristow ASR Sea King and taken to St Mary’s hospital.

The latest on the unfortunate and unnamed crew is that he has been discharged and is safe and well, if in need of a shower, a change of clothes and perhaps a Paracetamol or two.
