The 50th RYA Sailboat and Windsurf Show held at the weekend (March 3-4) proved a great success with some positive feedback from all involved, both visitors and exhibitors alike. Olympic gold medallists Iain Percy and Shirley Robertson were at the Show along with Silver medallist Ian Walker who is now Sailing Manager for the GBR Challenge for the America’s Cup Team.

Shirley who gave masterclasses at the Show commented: “It was great to be among so many enthusiastic sailors. The show had a real buzz to it and it was fantastic to see sailing getting such positive recognition. It was good after the Olympics to be back at the grass roots of sailing.”

Iain who also gave masterclasses and various talks said: “It was special for myself and Shirley to get reminded of the impact the Olympics had and to meet so many keen sailors. For young sailors and those new to sailing, the Sailboat and Windsurf show offers a great opportunity to see all the classes on offer, make choices and get some really good advice about their future in the sport.”

Jenny Curry, Show Manager said: “The Show is popular and gives exhibitors the chance to target a unique mix in the market of enthusiastic amateur sailors. This combined with the really friendly and personal atmosphere, gives the show a great vibe. Visitors benefit from some fantastic deals and great entertainment, it was a fun day out for all who came.”

The show was also a success for clubs, classes and retailers, some of whom were overwhelmed with interest from visitors, all enjoyed the positive buzz of the show. The Central Feature and ‘Live’ stage were crowd pullers and the Gybe Zone provided kids with exciting entertainment.

If you missed the fun this year make sure you keep next March in mind, it’s the best way for anyone with an interest in life afloat, whatever their level, to come and take a look at what the world of sailing has to offer.
