Weston SC dominate the podium at Gurnard RS700 open meeting last weekend 4/10/07

A total of 15 Sailors turned out to the inaugural Fat Face/Spinlock RS700 Fat Face Circuit Racing at Gurnard SC on the Isle of Wight and were greeted by rain and very light winds for the two-day meeting last weekend.

The first race began in a good Force 3-4. Matt Humphreys tacked underneath the bunch and just beat Nigel Walbank to the windward mark. Phil Dickinson and Tom Offer overtook Walbank to take second and third respectively.

Race two was sailed in similar conditions. Humphreys worked his way through the fleet downwind to take the lead. James Ross and Rob Chaplin were chasing hard and came close to catching Humphreys. However, Humphreys held on and won from Ross with Chaplin third.

Humphreys led from the leeward mark in race three from Walbank and Ross. These positions then stayed the same until the finish.

The tide turned before the start of race four. Gorringe sailed inshore down the run while Dickinson gybed out for the tide. Dickinson’s tactics paid off and he was able to reach the final leeward mark just in front of Gorringe who finished and Humphreys in third.

This gave Matt Humphreys the win (3pts) from James Ross in second (9pts) with Phil Dickinson third (10pts).
