MOD70 trimaran Foncia set new record at 2 hours, 21 minutes and 25 seconds

The Isle of Wight Round the Island record was beaten this afternoon by the Artemis Challenge trimaran Foncia, skippered by French yachtsman Michel Desjoyeaux.

The race began at 10am this morning, with Team GB atheletes Nick Depsey and Annie Lush competing along with sisters Kate and Lucy Macgregor from the Elliot 6m class.

Skipper Michel Desjoyeaux and Ian Walker were first to complete the 50nm dash around the Island onboard ‘Foncia’, as Mike Golding’s Gamesa crossed the line first in the IMOCA60 class.

The previous record was 2h 33m 55s, held by 105ft cataraman Playstation.

The race which is organised to raise money for charity, sees the winning teams share a prize of £8,000, which will be split between the chosen charities of the two
crews, Institute Curie and Save the Children.
