"The blocks exploded at the top of the mast and the shute went into the water while we were doing about 12 knots. But the damage is not serious and we can easily fix it before the restart."

At 03:27:40 on Saturday 13 June, Musto Perfomance Partners, crewed by Nigel Musto and Andy Hindley, finished the second leg of the Round Britain and Ireland Race. Musto Performance Partners finished approximately one and a half hours ahead of their Open 60 competitor, Victoria Group.

Musto and Hindley have suffered only minor damage on the leg despite the horrendous storm on Thursday night. “We decided that it would be prudent to hold back so that we didn’t compromise our position or indeed the boat. But it was hell, I have never heard so many different noises at one time. I don’t really want to go through that again!” reported Musto this afternoon.

The spinnaker is the major casualty in terms of damage. “The blocks exploded at the top of the mast and the shute went into the water while we were doing about 12 knots. But the damage is not serious and we can easily fix it before the restart,” commented Hindley.

Musto Performance Partners is due to start racing at 03:27:40 on Monday 15 June. The third leg of the race will take them around the top of Britain to Lerwick in the Shetlands. The boats are due to finish the leg next weekend.
