Light winds at the start of Day 4 at Skandia Cowes Week have once again caused racing to be postponed

Light winds have again caused the race committee to postpone racing at Cowes this morning. With a maximum gust strength of 2.4kts the flags festooning the Yacht Haven are hardly stirring, but there is hope as the day wears on. The morning’s low level cloud is gradually clearing to allow the sun to break through, which may allow a sea breeze to develop during the afternoon.

The latest wisdom from Skandia Cowes Week’s weather forecaster, Chris Tibbs, suggests that light, variable winds this morning will stabilise into a south-westerly breeze this afternoon, slowly building from around three knots to 10-15kts this evening. Meanwhile, the fleets can only wait.
