The Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall are delighted to announce they are working together to run a series of practical courses in the museum workshop in Falmouth.  Principal of the Academy Yvonne Green says “The museum is an inspirational place in which to work. The Instructors are looking forward to delivering the same brand of hands-on training in Falmouth as they do in Lyme Regis. Learning new skills at the heart of the museum will be a tremendous experience for everyone”.

Courses range from sharpening tools properly to cutting dovetails to replacing planks and repairing ply dinghies. The Wooden Boat Restoration course offers people the opportunity to bring their own boats to work on and gig builder Gail McGarva is running a ‘knees-up’ weekend where people’s names will be put on the knees they carve and become part of the boat.

People can come on just one course for the fun of a weekend by the sea doing something practical, or can seriously build their skills by joining a number of courses. The programme starts on 4 May and runs until November. Contact the Boat Building Academy on 01297 445545 or office@boatbuildingacademy.com for further details. Or look at the website for the programme and application form.
