In a report published today on YachtRacing.com, Larry Ellison’s Oracle Racing America’s Cup team has issued a statement that Chris Dickson has been removed from the sailing team. However, chief operating officer Bill Erkelens said that he would like to see Dickson take on new duties within the team.

Dickson responded: “Although I would prefer to be on the water, I am happy to be assigned to whichever areas the team feels I could make the largest contribution. Oracle Racing has a fantastic team with a huge amount of talent, and I’ll work wherever Larry Ellison and his advisors think I fit the best.”

A new skipper has yet to be announced but Peter Holmberg, the world’s No. 2-ranked match racer, who is also a member of the afterguard, is a candidate to be the principal helmsman. Ellison also plans to do some of the driving.
